Adult Family Home
Adult Family Homes (AFHs) in Washington State are an excellent alternative to Nursing Homes. AFHs are privately owned state licensed care facilities in a residential setting with up to 6 clients. They provide an outstanding caregiver to resident ratio, therefore allowing the best of personalized care. Monthly rent covers room and board, 24 hour personal care, 3 meals a day, snacks, utilities, housekeeping, laundry services and activities.
The majority of AFHs are certified for Dementia or Alzheimer’s care, while a smaller percentage of homes care for individuals with developmental disabilities or mental health issues. Most homes provide a Registered Nurse on call 24 hours a day and some may offer skilled nursing care on a daily basis. All caregivers providing patient care must have a minimum of a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Registered Nursing Assistant (NAR) license. Many AFHs are owned and operated by Registered Nurses and even some Medical Doctors.
A few important benefits are a high level of personalized care, comfortable home-like atmosphere and social activities based on the client’s preferences and abilities. Clients are able to live in the home and be cared for throughout the end of life, eliminating the need for additional moves which can have a negative impact on physical and emotional health. Adult Family Homes offer an intimate, caring environment where clients become like family, establishing strong bonds with caregivers and other residents.

Client Placement in an Adult Family Home
We offer free placement services to find the right Adult Family Home for our clients. Our nursing experience with AFHs allows us to help our clients and their families make the best choice in their long-term care. Our policy is that we only place clients where we would feel comfortable placing our own family.
We are locally-based in the Puget Sound area, and we have an extensive network of dozens of AFHs throughout the region. We personally visit each home every 90 days to ensure they meet our standards of care. We also check DSHS records to ensure there are no violations against the home.

Based upon your specific needs, we will choose 3 or 4 homes for you to tour. You may tour as many as you feel is necessary. We will drive you to each home and there will be plenty of time to visit and ask questions. After you have made your selection, we will continue to assist you with follow-up phone calls and visits to you and the provider.
